Free Music - Dr Nojoke - Clonefixnature

Unoiki's Digital Calendar continues, with this month's release from Dr. nojoke, a dark and brooding slice of conceptual techno. Free until the 9th of August.

"How would it be when we could substitute nature just by just cloning
it?
Would it help to understand how precious and unique it is?
The doc questions with his track “Clonefixnature” where it all
leads to:
From exploiting the earth over genetic engineering to the research on
cloning and robotic technology.

With its strange rhythmic clicks, the dark bass-loop and the wavering
and iridescent chords the track keeps us in suspense thus producing a
quite uncertain and desolate feeling about the future."
Download here.

FUCKNO EP free download

It's our 3rd birthday here at Little Rock, so to celebrate we have a few freebies coming your way over the next week. First up is the FUCKNO EP - featuring new tracks by 7 of the acts featured on the FUCKNO LP (still available to download). In keeping with the spirit of NORAVE the tracks veer from post-crunk to delicate ambient, from noise-hop to torch song to a bizarre afro-rock-house jam to end it all. All tracks are at 320Mb and the whole thing clocks in at 49 minutes. Total artronica. Go get:

Not your average mix....

Two quite surreal mixes. The first is a more traditional DJ mix, but with a wonky bent and some total sideways time signatures - Dr Noke's from Dubno To Clickstep mix, which contains Um-Machtung (probably my favourite of his tunes to date) and the riddim of Sublimacy - also available featuring Kid Ritalin on FUCKNO.

Next up is DJ Gonzo's Broken Toy Orchestra mix; a compilation of oneiric blurs, crackly sketches and alt-folk experimentation. Contains probably my favourite FourTet track of all time; My Angel Rocks Back and Forth.

Sublimacy Video

SUBLIMACY - Dr. Nojoke ft. Kid Ritalin from e on Vimeo.

Audio-visual artist Big E made a wee video for our collaboration Sublimacy... It's a club visuals capture, but makes me very happy.
His other works are linked from the page and are equally awesome.

Countdown to FUCKNO: Part 8, Dr. Nojoke ft Kid Ritalin

Dr. Nojoke Ft. Kid Ritalin - Sublimacy

Dr. nojoke's been given a fair bit of schpiel on this blog before (here, here and here), and Kid Ritalin is of course a major part of Team Little Rock. Sublimacy was born of a shared fascination with minimalism, experimental music, post-modernism and apocalyptic concepts - a dark construction of growling bass, metallic clanks and sparce rimshots backing scattershot flows. Straddling dubstep, clickno, hip-hop and spoken word, it's a complex and twisted peice of art.
Dr nojoke is a godhead of the creative commons / netlabel scene, having released on bleepsequence, Leporelo, Tropic and more, as well as curating the Unoiki experimental platform. His live and DJ sets can be accessed through the links, though we highly recommend the Techno For Food live set from earlier this year.

Kid Ritalin appears on Black Lantern Music very soon and has two EPs due on Little Rock very shortly.

Dr Nojoke - Sublimacy ft Kid Ritalin

I was across in Berlin recently to record with Dr Nojoke. Obviously, I had a little extra time, so put it good use.Berlin's graffiti culture is awesome, and O2 World has become the biggest symbol of vapid capitalist culture. The Television Tower was the greatest symbol of totalitarianism; an overarching eyeball reminding east Berliners that there was nowhere for them to hide, and a raised middle finger to the west stating technological superiority.
There's a Starbucks around the base of it now.

The O2 arena is the capitalist equivalent; a fat, homogeneous beast crouching amidst the cultural vibrancy of the East; a white sprawl looming over the dense psychedelia of the Berlin Wall Gallery. It's a bland tribute to money and conformity, and in a city famed for it's club culture and experimental music scene, O2 world is the venue of choice for bland pop, over-wrought dinosaur rock bands and big-chain CD stores.

I'll post a few of the better images from elsewhere in the city later, for now, here's the finished Dr nojoke / Kid Ritalin collaboration, due to be released as part of FUCKNO, Little Rock Records epic compilation.

Thanks again to Dr Ruth for the art.

Mo' Unoiki.

Unoiki (lit. One, two) release their first podcast, and rather nice it is too.

'Nuff said really, some great Clickno from the mighty DrNojoke. Lots of unreleased dubs and net audio tunes. Really looking forward to hearing this on proper monitors.

Day one, and Berlin has our hearts and minds tied up in the boot of it's beemer.

Dr Nojoke on stage with TRIoon, one of the acts on the insanely packed Netaudio Berlin lineup.
The good doctor had a few of the early arrivals up to his pad for some beers and some banter last night, and we soon became friends. An unassuming man, he lives in a beautiful ex-squat in the middle of Berlin's activist neighbourhood, a beacon of laid back cool among a city full of the same.

We'll be coming back with some of his music, so keep your ears peeled.

In other news, FUCK YEAH.
