Sight Teaser Trailer
The strange lovely folks at Seed gave us a heads up their latest film project, a psychological horror titled Sight. Seed mainstay Antoni Maiovvi gets to flex his horror muscle for the soundtrack, which means you can probably expect a fair bit of influence from John Carpenter / Giorgio Moroder etx. I thought it looked pretty fun, but maybe I'm just in the mood for exploding ponds and drone soundtracks.

Sell By Dave pres The Masque Of The Red Death re-soundtracked
Loving this - reminds me of what the Orb were up to in the late 80s and very early 90s, but with an old school Hammer horror twist. Not that I was at the original Orb parties mind, I've just read about the times they would play music, sound effects, film snippets and the like and jam over it with machines.
Anyway, here is Sell By Dave's own words on this project:
"I'm going to give the people what they want…sensation, horror, shock… send them out into the streets to tell their friends how wonderful it is to be scared to death" - Vincent Price, House of Wax
In the autumn of 2010, I was asked by Caravan Records boss October and Idle Hands mainman Chris Farrell whether I would like to do a DJ set with a twist - performing a new soundtrack to a film of my choice, which would be screened in the backroom of the Timbuk2 club in Bristol. I thought it was a great idea, and chose The Masque Of The Red Death, Roger Corman's 1960s version of the Edgar Allan Poe story of the same name.
I was inspired by the opportunity of providing a new soundtrack, but wanted the music and visuals to work perfectly in sync. I didn't want it to just be "some records over a film". So, I painstakingly edited each track to fit scenes, added sound effects, layered things up, captured speech from the original film, and so on. It was a laborious process, but on the night – when I mixed it all live, in time with the film, it worked wonderfully. The next day, I sat down and recorded a studio version of the mix, which was then edited down again in time with the film.
Hopefully one day there will be a DVD version, with the new soundtrack on top of the original film, but for now take a listen to the audio - it took a long time to put together. As the original film is pretty trippy, this soundtrack is, too. And it features the Monkees "in dub hell", as a friend of mine put it.
Enjoy."
We will!

Hobo With A Shotgun

Remember Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's Grindhouse double bill project from a few years ago? Remember all the fake film trailers made for it that were actually better than the main attractions themselves? Remember there was a competition to see which member of the public could make their own fake grindhouse trailer? No? Well, it doesn't really matter, as this is all just background chat for a new film called Hobo With A Shotgun. The fan-made HWAS clip won the Grindhouse competition a few years ago, and now the producer and director have expanded it out from a trailer to a feature length. And somehow they managed to cast the amazing Rutger Hauer in the lead role. It's cheap, it's nasty, and it looks like it's gonna be great:
You can play compare and contrast with the original trailer too:

Rubber
Quentin Dupieux aka Mr Oizo has completed his third film 'Rubber', a comedy/horror about a killer tyre on the rampage in the USA. Definitely the most outlandish/highly boring idea for a horror flick since The Human Centipede (see below).

Goblin live in Glasgow

The Gods of Awesome smile on us for once - it has been announced that the legendary Italian soundtrack band Goblin will be appearing live in Glasgow next February, as part of the Glasgow Film Festival! Some of us have been awaiting this moment for years. Goblin provided the soundtrack to horror classics like Dawn Of The Dead, Suspiria, Phenomena, Tenebre and many more. Here is clip of Goblin performing "Tenebre" a couple of years ago, a song famously sampled by French electro act Justice for their hit "We Suck Massive Donkey Knobs":
This truly is a time to rejoice my friends! More on the Goblin gig here. In other news, there seemes to be a mini-Giallo revival going on at the moment, what with Darren Aronofsky's The Black Swan said to be heavily influenced by Dario Argento, and the film "Amer" being even more of an hommage. Apparently it is like a filmic tone-poem and features no dialogue - I for one am intrigued:

The Whisperer In Darkness - coming soon!
A feature by the HP Lovecraft Historical Society, their first. They could have had a bigger budget, sure, but they make up for that by knowing their shit.
Main story over on Cinema Sucicide.

MENERGY tomorrow! (+ 2 new Horror Disco mixes)

It's that time of the month again - time for blood, pain, lipstick and disco. Gay Dance Party MENERGY is back tomorrow night, back like Michael Myers, at Bacchus in Glasgow's Merchant City. This month there's a special Italo Horror theme and to celebrate Menergy residents Kid Zipper & The Niallist have each done a horror-themed disco mix. KZ's "Cannibal Italocaust" mix is a combination of old and new, leaning heavily on the kind of synth jams heard in classic 70's zombie stalk and slash pics, and the Niallist's "Disco Argento" mix is a compendium of some of the greatest of horror film disco cash in records of the 70's and 80's. Check out the track lists below, with download links attached...
