Maria And The Mirrors - Travelsex

Not to everyone's taste, but nevertheless a well executed slab of hallucinomorphic noise with a  video to match. Or as user gerrdaa puts it on youtube; "you are terrible. i am so sorry for myself that i had to listen to you while at work.. stop doing this.

Out last year on Parlour Records, I found it via Astral Social Club's post on Bang the Bore.

Com Truise - Polyhurt (Free Download)

Polyhurt
To celebrate the release of Com Truise's debut album, Galactic Melt, Ghostly International are giving away Polyhurt, a slice of loping, aquatic electro-psychedelia that swoops and smashes over the listener. Com Truise (aka Seth Haley) has been making music for over a decade now under various monikers, and this particular creation produces heavy, somnambulist shoegaze, channelled through walls or distortion and heavy analogue synth sounds - kinda like the Cocteaus Twins given an arsenal of Roland kit and forced to listen to acid techno perpetually.

Galactic Melt is available on CD and double pack vinyl from the 4th of July.

Trish Keenan: 'Mind Bending Motorway Mix'

I posted this on Dangerous Minds last week, but it deserves to be shared again. Trish Keenan was the singer in the indie/electronica band Broadcast, who died last week of pneumonia.

Just before the recent trip to Australia on which she contracted swine flu, Broadcast singer Trish Keenan compiled some experimental music and psyche-pop for a friend, and called it the “Mind Bending Motorway Mix.” The mix (which has no track list), has been uploaded as a tribute to the late musician, with a view to being shared with as many people as possible. Joe Muggs at The Arts Desk writes:

“A friend in Birmingham who had become good friends with Keenan in recent years has passed me THIS LINK for a “mixtape” she gave him very recently. It’s the most wonderful collection of psychedelic rarities, film music and synthesiser experiments, and perfectly illustrates Keenan’s constant mission to turn people on to exquisite and unusual sounds - but also, as the tracks are not titled, shows the sense of mystery and incentive to investigate with which she imbued all her work.”

DJ Goatface Killah Presents... "Ave Satanas"

DJ Goatface Killah made a name for himself at the Satanic Toga Party a few months back by supplying the devil-worshipping revellers with a soundtrack of non-stop Dark Lord-themed hits. This being the witching season, we asked him to do a Satanic mix for Shallow Rave, and here it is. It's rather bloody good too, and surprisingly features nothing from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (no, that's a different Iron Maiden). HAIL SATAN! \m/

Teh Weapons

I mentioned this a while back, via Iamus' own blog, but it's finally gone up as Weaponizer's front page, as well as guarantee from Texture that there will be one new fiction piece per weekday uploaded from now on.I'm also really enjoying Peter Morrison's Parlimentary Candidate #1, also from Weaponizer - a speculative / satirical fiction with unsurprising relevance these days

PROSPECTIVE PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATE NO. 1 by PETER MORRISON

When the Prime Minister himself phoned me to tell me I’d been selected as Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for [CENSORED] I was thrilled – the Prime Minister himself, phoning me! On reflection I should have been suspicious; it should have been the first alarm bell that something was wrong. The fact that my mother burst into tears should have been the second alarm bell – I mean real distraught sobs, not tears of happiness. But I was keen, I was eager, I was naive.... (Read More)

Iamus Creative

Paul McCann, friend of Team Little Rock and member of The Evil Eye, creates psychedelic, acid inflected comic book art. So cool. He's just posted up this bad boy on his blog iamus-creative.blogspot.com. Some gorgeous artwork and short comics on there.

Bruno B. Dicolla's 'Return as an Animal'

Bruno B. Dicolla's artwork reminds me of Shallow Rave favourite, Brendan Mccarthy
(brendanmccarthy.co.uk appears to be down)
While the two artists are very different and work in quite different media, they both have a sense of colour and texture that, while often jarring and bizarre, holds a psychaedelic magic that draws me in and soothes my tired brain.
