Voodoo Ray live, Manchester Victoria Baths, 1988

Just up the road from me, the VIctoria Baths is an old, beautiful Victorian bath house with excellent natural reverb. You can hear it in this clip of A Guy Called Gerald performing live there - sadly the pool has now been drained, so no more giant inflatable bananas and kids dunking each other to acid house.

Moss Side ravers 1986

From A Guy Called Gerald, this is ACE. Original ravers havin it large to Chicago house back in 1986, two years before it hit London, in the Manchester suburb of Moss Side. That's just up the road from me! I am actually working on some old school house influenced by Manchester, so this is pretty inspirational:

Possibly because it is only interested in playback and not sales or file-sharing, whatever the reason, it has been a gold mine for me for finding old house tracks lately. Here are some belters I have been digging:

Out Of Date Before It Was Even Made

A couple of years old, this still pushes all my Tron buttons. It might look a lot like it was made for a low budget Australian kids TV show from the mid 90s, but even now the video somehow still manages to look like the future.

Maybe that says more about how my media-addled mind concieves of the future? Tron came out in 1982, after all...

Some new mixes

Via the medium of Facebook we have been alerted to a couple of new mixes that deserve to be shared with the wider world.

First up is a new mix by Glasgow club dj/visual artist/video director Konx-Om-Pax entitled "Ghetto Futures", which features a blend of techno and electro, with bangers from Dynarec, Disco D, Carl Craig and the popular Levon Vincent.
