Fox Gut Daata remixes Dam Mantle

Short and sweet! The track is called Rebong (originally from Dam Mantle's excellent "Grey" EP) and you can hear FGD's twist at the top of this page: http://dammantle.tumblr.com/. It's mighty fine! There's a chance that this is going to appear on a forthcoming split release by Dam Mantle/Fox Gut Daata in September on a new Glasgow label. More news on that as it happens.

New Radio - Fox Gut Daata Live

Fox Gut Daata – one of Glasgow’s finest producers and live performers, and purveyor of psychedelic aqua-crunk.This live set was recorded at Stereo in support of Dam Mantle, Seams and Gold Panda.

Scotland’s very own Fox Gut Daata makes wonky boom-bap in the vein of Rustie or HudMo, but has yet to reach the dizzying heights of the above. As well as performing live for everyone from Huntley and Palmers, Ballers Social Club to Cry Parrot, playing on Radio 1 Scotland, producing and creating artwork, and putting out tunes through various labels, he’s recently remixed the uber-hyped Conquering Animal Sound. Team Little Rock also bring brand new tunes from Magnetic Man, Sephirot, reset The Atari and more.

First up, FGD live - We gave away a wee extract from his live performance at Stereo a while back, but he's just up uploaded a full live set to Soundcloud. While there's aspects of skwee, folktronica and down-tempo in his music, FGD's sound, like that of his close friends Rustie and Hudson Mohawke is most influenced by classic boom-bap hip-hop. This is awesome.

Joe Howe aka Germlin / one half of Gay Against You, now makes music as Ben Butler and Mousepad, mentioned a few times on this blog - it's a proggy fusion of mad synth meandering, wonky drumming and occaisonal pop genius breaking through the mess. Not as good as the really, really stupid splicing of Burial's Archangel and Kanye's megahit, but I love these remixes he's doing. Grab them, and more, from his soundcloud.

You can also get the entire Gay Against You back catalogue from their Bandcamp site - surreal, lo-fi, neon-tinted madness that was all self-released with unique liner notes and packaging. Well worth finding. Look out for My Gay Unicorn - one of the most brilliantly fractured slices of pop music ever.

Fox Gut Daata = Live

Last night saw a live set from Little Rock favourite Fox Gut Daata at the Pandora Bar on Glasgow's sarf side, with DJing from LuckyMe's Joe and Numbers' Richard. We were in attendance too, and managed to record the Fox Gut live set for posterity. Yay! Here's the first five minutes of the set, including the transition from the end of Joe's DJing. Keep your eyes peeled for more FGD live (and studio) action on Little Rock in the not too distant future.

OK, after consideration we've decided that the audio quality on that clip is not good enough - so we've replaced it with a clip of Fox Gut's set supporting Gold Panda at Stereo last month. We hope to give you all of that set in the very near future.
