Plastic food in a concrete maze

A fitting companion piece to Ramin Bahrani's excellent Plastic Bag, VBS comes up with the gonzo goods once again with Garbage Island. Under the auspices of Captain Charles Moore, a team of journalists set out to find the Texas-sized mass of plastic waste circulating in the Pacific Ocean's Northern Gyre. As with other entries in the Toxic series, this leads to some depressing revelations on our chauvinistic relationship with the living planet, emphasising the need for an internationally-coordinated effort to curb production of gratuitous plastic packaging and to push towards banning non-recyclable plastics.
