Remix Plastikman...

From Resident Advisor...
"Richie Hawtin has teamed up with online production platform Burn Studios for a Plastikman remix competition, in which the winner will have their tune released on the digital release of Arkives.

Contestants will remix "Ask Yourself," a selection from Plastikman's 2003 album Closer and a staple of his new live act. All of the tune's individual elements—bassline, strings, vocals, etc.—are available for download right here on RA, so contestants can rebuild the tune from the ground up. Hawtin will personally review the submissions and release the winning remix digitally on Arkives."

Richie Hawtin's influence on electronic music, and myself, over the past two decades is nothing short of spectacular. Admittedly, he's put out some overly-reductionist clicky numbers that haven't stood the test of time, but his Plastikman albums and the M_nus label are two absolute cornerstones of techno, and represent a fraction of his best works. Now, with Arkives dropping soon, Hawtin's offering the stems to Ask Yourself and inviting other producers to compete to remix it. The finished version will be included in the digital release of Arkives. If nothing else, it's totally worth crafting your own cheeky re-edit of a bona-fide classic.
